The only thing you have to do is to get ready for a pleasant stayEstablished in 1992, Abruzzo National Park covers a surface of 44.000 hectares, most of this in the Abruzzo region. The protected includes several communes: OPi, Bisegna, Civitella Alfedena, Gioia dei Marsi, Lecce dei Marsi, Pescasseroli e Villavallelonga The mountains have a wild shape and are characterized by gorges, karstic fields and high-plateaus, besides the Scanno and Barrea lakes. At low altitudes it is possible to find oak - woods while beech woods are found over the 1000 mt altitude. Among the flora species it is possible to admire the Venus shoe, the Marsican Iris, the red lili and several wild orchids. Protected wildlife is represented by the Marsican bear,the most famous animal in the national park of Abruzzo. The Abruzzo chamois is present in the park in a number of about 700. Another important specie is the appennine wolf, as well as: the deer, the roe-deer, the golden eagle, the wild pig, the fox, the squirrel and many other small animals.
Majella National park was established in 1995: its surface covers 74.095 hectares and includes the provinces of L’Aquila, Chieti, Pescara and 34 communes. The park territory consist in a mighty calcareous massif, carved by several cayons such as the Orfento, Selva Romana, Santo Spirito and Val Severia. The highest peak of

the Majella mountain chain is the Monte Amaro, with an altitude of 2.793 mt. On the Majella, wildlife is represented by the wolf, the bear, the chamois, the otter, the roe-deer and the deer.Among the 103 bird species are found the gold eagle, as well as the peregrine, the eagle-owl, the lanner, the goshawk. Many important historical towns belong the park, such as Pescostanzo, cultural seat of the park, Guardiagrele, Pennapiedimonte and Caramanico Terme.
